What Happens to Your Data?
Data That Will Be Deleted:
- Personal information including:
- Your name and contact details
- Email address
- Account credentials
- Your financial ledger data
- Transaction history
- User preferences and settings
- Any uploaded documents or files
Data That May Be Retained:
Deleting your account removes your personal data from our live systems. A few narrow categories can still exist afterward, and none of them let us restore your account:
- Anonymized usage statistics: Aggregate analytics used to improve the service. These are not linked to your identity and cannot be traced back to you.
- Records held by third-party providers: Some records live with our processors rather than in your account — for example, your payment provider keeps its own record of past payments to meet its legal and tax obligations. Those are governed by that provider's policies and by law, independent of your account deletion.
- Routine system backups: Where operational backups exist, they are maintained by our infrastructure for disaster recovery, are not used to restore deleted accounts, and are overwritten in the normal backup rotation. We do not keep a separate copy of your data on a delayed-deletion schedule.
Data Retention Period:
- Deletion is immediate and permanent. When you confirm, your account, ledger data, and the underlying repositories are removed from our live systems in the same step — there is no soft-delete, no grace period, and no self-service way to recover the account afterward.
- Because the removal is immediate rather than staged, there is no multi-day retention window on our side. The only lingering copies are the third-party and backup categories above, which follow their own providers' policies and rotation rather than an account-deletion timeline.
At Beancount.io, our goal is to ensure a secure, transparent process that respects your privacy rights. If you have any questions about the account deletion process or our data retention policies, please contact our support team.
