What's Inside

Fiscal years end January 31. All figures sourced from Zoom Communications, Inc. 10-K / 10-Q filings (SEC CIK 0001585521). The balance sheet carries no debt. Strategic investments — including the Anthropic preferred stake behind FY2027Q2's $1,614.203 million unrealized gain — sit on Assets:NonCurrent:LongTermInvestments, and that gain is always its own income-statement posting, never folded into other income.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 1,277.217 MUSD means 1,277.217 million US dollars.
  • Additional accounts — Assets:NonCurrent:LongTermInvestments holds
    the "Strategic investments" caption; Assets:NonCurrent:OperatingLeaseRightOfUse
and Liabilities:NonCurrent:OperatingLeases hold the separate lease captions
(the current lease liability stays inside accrued expenses, as filed). See each
    account's open line in main.bean.
  • Named postings — "Gains (losses) on strategic investments, net" is always
its own Income:OtherNet posting beside "Other income, net", so FY2027Q2's
$1,614.203 million Anthropic remeasurement never mixes with operating or
    interest income. FY2022's $274.007 million tax benefit (a valuation-allowance
release) posts as a negative Expenses:IncomeTax line.
  • Residuals — Assets:Current:Other combines current deferred contract
    acquisition costs with prepaid expenses and other current assets;
Assets:NonCurrent:Other combines noncurrent deferred contract costs,
deferred tax assets and other noncurrent assets (which holds the filed
intangibles, never a separate caption); Liabilities:NonCurrent:Other
combines noncurrent deferred revenue with other noncurrent liabilities. Each
residual comment reconciles to the filing's subtotal.
