What's Inside

Fiscal years end December 31; quarters end on the Saturday nearest the calendar quarter end (Q3 2026 ended September 26, 2026). All figures sourced from Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. Form 10-K filings and the Q3 2026 earnings Form 8-K (SEC EDGAR, CIK 0000097745).

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 12,137 MUSD means 12,137 million US dollars.
  • Additional accounts — Assets:Current:Inventory, Equity:TreasuryStock,
    Equity:NoncontrollingInterests, Equity:UndisaggregatedParent,
    Equity:Temporary:RedeemableNoncontrollingInterests,
    Expenses:AmortizationOfAcquiredIntangibles,
    Expenses:ImpairmentsAndRestructuring, Expenses:Interest, opened beyond the
standard chart (see each account's open line in main.bean).
  • Condensed quarter — the Q3 2026 8-K prints only the equity total, so the
whole $54,767M sits on Equity:UndisaggregatedParent and the component
equity accounts are asserted at zero, never estimated; accounts payable and
contract liabilities are likewise folded into Liabilities:Current:Other.
  • Rounding — the filings' printed totals trail their components by $1M in a
few places; the residual lines absorb the difference with a comment naming
both sums, and every income statement still offsets at exactly the filed net
    income.
