What's Inside

All figures are sourced from Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company's Form 10-K and Form 10-Q filings (SEC EDGAR CIK 0001645590; NYSE: HPE). Fiscal years end October 31. FY2026Q3 is the standalone three months ended July 31, 2026, not the nine-month statement. Hewlett Packard Enterprise completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025; the ledger shows it only through the captions the filings print — goodwill, intangible assets, amortization of intangible assets, acquisition charges, the debt raised for it and the preferred stock — with no organic or pro forma split, because the filings print none.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 12,213 MUSD means 12,213 million US dollars.
  • Revenue — Income:Revenue is one posting equal to the filing's total
net revenue: products plus services plus financing income. The split is in
    the posting comment.
  • Net income — net earnings attributable to HPE, the line the statement
of earnings prints before preferred stock dividends. Preferred stock
dividends and net earnings attributable to common stockholders, printed
from fiscal 2024, are comments in each period file: a dividend is a
    distribution, not an expense.
  • Cost of revenue — three labeled Expenses:CostOfRevenue postings: cost
of products, cost of services and financing cost, each the filing's own
    line.
  • Amortization — Expenses:AmortizationOfAcquiredIntangibles holds the
filing's "amortization of intangible assets" line, which the statement of
earnings shows apart from cost of sales.
  • Other lines — impairment charges, transformation costs, disaster
charges, acquisition, disposition and other charges, interest and other,
net, the litigation judgment, the gains on sale of an equity interest and
of a business, and earnings from equity interests are each a labeled
posting carrying the filed amount. They sit on Expenses:OtherNet in a
period where they net to an expense and on Income:OtherNet where they net
    to income, never both.
  • Preferred stock — Equity:PreferredStock is asserted at nil. The
balance sheet prints a dash on the 7.625% Series C mandatory convertible
preferred stock caption, because its $0.01 par value is below one million
dollars; the proceeds are inside additional paid-in capital, as filed.
  • Other accounts — Assets:Current:Inventory (inventory),
    Assets:Current:FinancingReceivables (financing receivables, net of
    allowances), Assets:NonCurrent:LongTermInvestments (investments in
equity interests, the H3C stake sold in September 2024 and May 2026) and
    Equity:NoncontrollingInterests. Assets:NonCurrent:Other is the single
    filed caption "long-term financing receivables and other assets";
Liabilities:Current:Other combines employee compensation, taxes on
earnings, accrued restructuring and other accrued liabilities, itemized in
    each period file.
  • As last presented — each year uses the most recent filing that
presents it. Later 10-Ks combine some lines (the tax indemnification and
non-service benefit lines into interest and other, net; disaster charges
into acquisition, disposition and other charges) without changing net
earnings; each period file names what moved.
