Amounts in MUSD (millions of US dollars), exactly as the ledger records them.

What's Inside

Fiscal years end May 31; SEC EDGAR CIK 0000723254 (Nasdaq: CTAS). FY2022 through
FY2026 come from each year's Form 10-K as originally filed. FY2027Q1 (three
months ended August 31, 2026) comes from the earnings release furnished as
Form 8-K Exhibit 99, which carries the full consolidated condensed statements;
the Form 10-Q for that quarter had not been filed when the period was added.
The filings report in thousands, so every amount keeps three decimals of MUSD.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 3,013.981 MUSD means 3,013.981 million US dollars.
  • Rental inventory — Assets:Current:UniformsAndRentalItemsInService
holds the filing's "uniforms and other rental items in service": garments,
mats and towels already at customers, amortized into cost of sales. It is
kept apart from Assets:Current:Inventory (inventories, net), as the
    balance sheet does.
  • Cost of revenue — two Expenses:CostOfRevenue postings per period, one
per filed line: cost of uniform rental and facility services, and cost of
other. The income statement prints no cost-of-sales total. Revenue is one
Income:Revenue posting; the rental / other split is in its comment.
  • UniFirst transaction expenses — the filing's separate operating line
(fiscal 2026 onward) is a second, labeled
Expenses:SellingGeneralAdministrative posting, never folded in unlabeled.
  • Interest — Expenses:OtherNet carries interest expense and interest
income as one labeled posting each.
  • Other mapped captions — Assets:NonCurrent:IntangibleAssets is service
    contracts, net; Assets:NonCurrent:LongTermInvestments is investments;
    Assets:NonCurrent:OperatingLeaseRightOfUse and
    Liabilities:Current:OperatingLeases / Liabilities:NonCurrent:OperatingLeases
are the operating lease captions; Equity:TreasuryStock is treasury stock at
cost. Residual …:Other lines are itemized in each period file and tie to
    the filing's subtotals.
