Fiscal years end on the last day of February and are labeled by the ending year (FY2024 ended February 29, 2024); SEC CIK 0001170010. FY2027Q2 is the quarter June 1–August 31, 2026 alone (FY2027Q1 is not included). CarMax Auto Finance income is carried in its own Income:CarMaxAutoFinance account, net of funding costs and loan-loss provision as filed, and the non-recourse notes that fund it in Liabilities:Current:FundingDebt / Liabilities:NonCurrent:FundingDebt; source amounts in thousands carry three decimals here.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 7,877.91 MUSD means 7,877.91 million US dollars.
  • Additional accounts — Assets:Current:RestrictedCash,
    Assets:Current:LoansHeldForSale, Assets:NonCurrent:Loans,
    Assets:NonCurrent:OperatingLeaseRightOfUse,
    Liabilities:Current:FundingDebt, Liabilities:NonCurrent:FundingDebt,
    Liabilities:Current:OperatingLeases,
    Liabilities:NonCurrent:OperatingLeases, Income:CarMaxAutoFinance,
    Expenses:DepreciationAndAmortization, Expenses:Interest,
Expenses:GoodwillImpairment, opened beyond the standard chart (see each
    account's open line in main.bean).
