Fiscal years end December 31. All figures sourced from AT&T Inc. Form 10-K and Form 8-K filings (SEC EDGAR, CIK 0000732717). AT&T spun off WarnerMedia in April 2022, so FY2021 is the post-spin restatement from the FY2022 10-K's comparative columns (WarnerMedia in discontinued operations), not the FY2021 10-K as filed — the ledger is the connectivity company throughout. As the fleet's first telecom-carrier ledger it carries spectrum licenses as their own account, plus the filing's combined impairments-and-restructuring line.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 32,322 MUSD means 32,322 million US dollars.
  • Carrier accounts — Assets:NonCurrent:Licenses holds the wireless
spectrum licenses the filing prints as their own caption (roughly a third of
assets); Expenses:ImpairmentsAndRestructuring holds the filing's combined
    impairments, abandonments and restructuring line.
  • Disposals — WarnerMedia (FY2021) and the held-for-sale Mexico wireless
    business (FY2026Q3) sit on Assets:Current:HeldForSale /
    Liabilities:Current:HeldForSale, asserted at zero in the other periods;
their P&L sits on Expenses:DiscontinuedOperations. Discontinued losses are
a debit posting and consolidated net income still ties to the filing.
  • Equity detail — treasury stock is held apart as Equity:TreasuryStock
(debit); the Mobility II preferred interests are mezzanine equity on
    Equity:Temporary:RedeemableNoncontrollingInterests; preferred stock prints
"—" (par rounds to nil) and is asserted at zero. The income transaction
deducts noncontrolling interest as the filing does, so its offset is net
    income attributable to AT&T.
