I run a 40-seat restaurant. My accountant says “you need Toast or MarginEdge for daily metrics.” But I track everything in a spreadsheet + bank account (dual reconciliation nightmare). Discovered Beancount last month, started entering P&L daily.
Real issue: I need to know food cost % daily (not weekly). Food % = COGS / Revenue. I can get revenue from POS (daily), but COGS is murky: I buy ingredients sporadically, inventory shrinkage is unknown, waste isn’t tracked.
Question: can Beancount help me calculate food cost % automatically, or am I chasing a ghost? And labor % (payroll / revenue) — can I forecast if we’re trending toward unsustainable labor costs?
