What's Inside

PG&E Corporation (NYSE: PCG, SEC CIK 1004980) is the Oakland-based holding company for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the regulated utility serving 16 million Californians across Northern and Central California; fiscal years end December 31. The chart extends the house accounts for utility captions — procurement costs, plant O&M, regulatory balancing accounts, Wildfire Fund and wildfire self-insurance assets, and the Diablo Canyon nuclear decommissioning trusts — while the Utility subsidiary's preferred stock sits in Equity:NoncontrollingInterests and the 2024 mandatory convertible preferred in Equity:PreferredStock. History starts at FY2024: the ledger covers the two latest audited annuals plus the current quarter.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 6,188 MUSD means 6,188 million US dollars.
  • Additional accounts — Assets:Current:Inventory,
    Assets:NonCurrent:LongTermInvestments, Equity:PreferredStock,
    Equity:NoncontrollingInterests, Expenses:OperationsAndMaintenance,
    Expenses:DepreciationAndAmortization, Expenses:Interest, opened beyond the
standard chart (see each account's open line in main.bean).
  • Net income and preferred dividends — the transaction offset is
consolidated Net Income; the subsidiary preferred stock dividend requirement
below it on the face is a distribution, not an expense, and lives in comments.
  • Wildfire lines — SB 901 securitization charges, wildfire-related claims
net of recoveries, and Wildfire Fund expense post as labeled Income:OtherNet
lines (claims print nil in FY2026Q3).
  • Tax benefit — "Income tax benefit" prints as a credit every period
(deferred tax credits exceed the current provision) and posts negative on
    Expenses:IncomeTax.
