What's Inside

Fiscal years are 52 or 53 weeks ending on the Saturday closest to January 31
and are named for the calendar year in which they start: FY2025 ended January
31, 2026, and FY2023 (ended February 3, 2024) had 53 weeks. SEC EDGAR CIK
0000935703 (Nasdaq: DLTR). Each year is recorded as last presented: Dollar
Tree classified Family Dollar as held for sale in the fourth quarter of fiscal
2024 and sold it on July 5, 2025, and the fiscal 2024 and fiscal 2025 Form
10-Ks recast FY2022, FY2023 and FY2024 so that revenue and every expense line
are continuing operations only — the Dollar Tree banner. FY2021 was never
recast, so its lines still include Family Dollar and its revenue is not
comparable with later years. FY2026Q2 is the standalone 13 weeks May 3 –
August 1, 2026, not the 26-week statement; FY2026Q1 is not included. The
filings print millions of dollars to one decimal and the ledger keeps that
precision.

Quick Start

bash
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"

Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.

Methodology

  • Balance sheet — pad / balance directives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner.
  • Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period: Income
negative (credit), Expenses positive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
    a comment directly above it.
  • Unit — MUSD; 4,891.2 MUSD means 4,891.2 million US dollars.
  • Revenue — Income:Revenue is one posting equal to the filing's total
revenue (net sales plus other revenue); the split is in the posting comment.
The filings compute gross profit margin on net sales.
  • Tariff refunds — in FY2026Q2 the Form 10-Q reflects 368.7 of refunds of
IEEPA tariffs within cost of sales. The refund is its own labeled credit on
Expenses:CostOfRevenue, and the posting beside it is cost of sales before
the refund; the two sum to the filed line. The interest received on the
refunds is printed only to the whole million and stays inside the filed
    other income, net line.
  • Discontinued operations — the Family Dollar result is one labeled
posting on Expenses:DiscontinuedOperations, net of tax, in FY2022 through
    FY2025 (a debit for a loss, a credit for income). The Equity:Adjustments
offset in each income statement is the filing's consolidated net income or
loss, continuing plus discontinued, which equals the figure originally
filed for that year. On the February 3, 2024 and February 1, 2025 balance
sheets, Family Dollar's discontinued-operations captions sit in the
…:Other residuals, itemized in those period files.
  • Other lines — interest expense, net; other (income) expense, net; and,
from FY2025, transition services agreement income, net are each their own
labeled posting with the filed value on Expenses:OtherNet or
Income:OtherNet (whichever way their net falls in that period, never
both). The filings print the transition services line above operating
income, so in FY2025 and FY2026Q2 the filing's "operating income" is not a
ledger subtotal; each period file prints it. The insurance gains the
filings place within other (income) expense, net in FY2024 and FY2025 are
labeled postings beside the rest of that line.
  • Additional accounts — Assets:Current:Inventory,
    Assets:NonCurrent:RestrictedCash,
    Assets:NonCurrent:OperatingLeaseRightOfUse,
    Liabilities:Current:OperatingLeases,
    Liabilities:NonCurrent:OperatingLeases, Expenses:DiscontinuedOperations,
opened beyond the standard chart (see each account's open line in
    main.bean).
  • Balance tolerance — main.bean tightens Beancount's inferred balance
tolerance so that a one-tenth move between two period ends is asserted
    rather than absorbed.
