All figures are sourced from Deere & Company's Form 10-K and Form 10-Q filings (SEC EDGAR CIK 0000315189; NYSE: DE). Deere uses a 52/53-week fiscal year ending on the last Sunday in the reporting period, generally near the end of October: FY2021 through FY2024 contained 52 weeks and FY2025, which ended November 2, 2025, contained 53. FY2026Q3 is the standalone 13 weeks ended August 2, 2026, not the nine-month statement. Deere consolidates its financing arm, John Deere Financial, so financing receivables are the largest asset in every period; the ledger posts the consolidated statements exactly as filed and keeps the equipment-operations / Financial Services split, which the filings give as unaudited supplemental data, in comments.
Quick Start
uvx --from beancount bean-check main.bean
uvx --from beanquery bean-query main.bean \
"SELECT year, sum(position) WHERE account ~ '^Income:Revenue' GROUP BY year ORDER BY year"Zero output from bean-check means the ledger is internally consistent: every
income statement sums to zero and every balance-sheet snapshot reconciles to
the filed totals. The query prints revenue by calendar year; income is a
credit, so it shows as a negative number. Open main.bean in Fava
or import it into beancount.io to explore it visually.
Methodology
- Balance sheet —
pad/balancedirectives assert each period-end
figure against the filing named in that period file's source banner. - Income statement — one zero-sum transaction per period:
Income
negative (credit),Expensespositive (debit), with the arithmetic check in
a comment directly above it. - Unit —
MUSD;12,608 MUSDmeans 12,608 million US dollars. - Revenue —
Income:Revenueis one posting equal to the filing's total
net sales and revenues: net sales plus finance and interest income plus
other income. The split, and net sales by segment, are in the comments. - Net income — net income attributable to Deere & Company; the
noncontrolling-interest share is a labeledExpenses:OtherNetposting. - The financing arm —
Assets:NonCurrent:Loansholds "financing
receivables – net" andAssets:NonCurrent:LoansSecuritizedholds
"financing receivables securitized – net", the retail notes that secure
the "short-term securitization borrowings" in
Liabilities:Current:FundingDebt.
Assets:NonCurrent:EquipmentOnOperatingLeasesholds the machines Deere
owns and leases out, andExpenses:Interestthe filing's interest expense
line. The allowance for credit losses and the provision appear only in the
notes to the filings, so they are comments, not postings. - Unclassified balance sheet — the filings print no current /
non-current subtotals;CurrentandNonCurrentin the account names are
the Open Ledger house hierarchy, not a classification Deere makes. - Other accounts —
Assets:Current:Inventory(inventories),
Equity:TreasuryStock(common stock in treasury, at cost),
Equity:NoncontrollingInterestsand
Equity:Temporary:RedeemableNoncontrollingInterests(the redeemable
noncontrolling interest printed between liabilities and equity).
Assets:NonCurrent:OtherandLiabilities:NonCurrent:Othercombine the
retirement-benefit, deferred-tax and other captions, itemized in each
period file. - Named one-off — FY2026Q3 carries the $110 million of tariff recoveries
the 10-Q says decreased cost of sales as a second, labeled
Expenses:CostOfRevenueposting; the two postings sum to the filed line. - As last presented — each year uses the most recent filing that
presents it. No income statement was restated; the October 31, 2021
balance sheet follows the fiscal 2022 10-K, which folded three affiliate
captions into other lines without changing any total.
